Welcome Collective supports refugee claimant families in precarious situations - single-parent families, families with multiple children, families with pregnancies, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and unaccompanied minors.

In addition, your donations help us all by building the circular economy, keeping waste out of landfills and reducing the amount of CO2 that enters the atmosphere. Learn more about our impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

We accept essential items that a family would need to start a home in an empty apartment. These items include:

Furniture and larger items

  • fridges and stoves
  • kitchen tables and chairs
  • single, double, and queen mattresses and box springs
  • cribs and crib mattresses
  • most living room furniture (sofas under 80 in/200 cm long, armchairs, coffee and end tables)
  • some bedroom furniture (dressers, nightstands, and basic metal bed frames)
  • small desks (less than 36" long)
  • air conditioners and fans

Smaller items

  • bedding, blankets, and pillows
  • bath towels
  • basic kitchenware (dishes, pots and pans, utensils, etc.)
  • small appliances (microwaves, blenders, toasters, coffeemakers, etc.)
  • computers less than 5 years old and in good working order
  • flat screen TVs (less than 10 years old)
  • cell phones in good condition
  • baby items (car seats, strollers, high chairs, etc.)
  • diapers, including opened packages of unused diapers
  • baby clothing from ages 0 to 3 years
  • warm winter wear (coats, boots, hats, gloves, scarves)
  • backpacks and school supplies
  • toys and stuffed animals!
  • other basic household items, depending on our need and storage capacity - please ask!

No. Donated items should be clean and not in need of repair. They should not be damaged or stained, though regular gentle wear is acceptable.

Because we focus on essentials, we often have to decline perfectly good items. We also may deem some items to be too large or too heavy, since the families we serve usually live in small apartments. Items we do not accept include:

  • washers and dryers
  • king mattresses and box springs
  • most bed frames (we only accept basic metal base frames that are usually on casters)
  • headboards, day beds, trundle beds
  • sofas over 200 cm (80”) in length
  • reclining armchairs (La-Z-boy style) and sofas
  • futons and pull-out sofa beds
  • bookshelves, credenzas/buffets, hutches
  • large desks
  • glass-topped tables or coffee tables
  • mirrors
  • specialized kitchen items (escargot plates, onion soup bowls, sushi sets, fondue kits, etc.)
  • decorative items (with the exception of wall art, which we will accept)
  • food
  • all clothing, except for baby clothing from ages 0-3 years and winter clothing

The only clothing that we accept is warm winter outerwear, including coats, snow pants, hats, mittens, scarves, and boots, and any baby clothing from ages 0-3 years.

We cannot take items that we deem too big or too heavy due to limitations in our vehicle and our storage space.

You can access our donations form here. It is necessary to schedule an appointment to drop off donations. You can also choose to schedule a time for us to pick up your donation for a fee.

Yes! You can bring items to us at our storage space in Ahuntsic. You will be provided with the address and invited to schedule a drop-off time after you submit the form.

Yes! We offer furniture removal services for a modest fee. We can pick up furniture, appliances, and larger amounts of small items. Once we receive your item donation form, we will contact you to arrange a pick-up time.

We’re glad you asked!

  • It is VERY helpful if you disassemble furniture (disassembling cribs, removing legs from kitchen tables, etc.) before we arrive. Please place screws and other small hardware in a plastic bag (Ziploc are good) and securely afix the bag to one of the larger pieces.
  • Dishes and other breakable kitchenware must be wrapped and packed into boxes. Bedding, towels, winter wear and other soft items should be folded and packed into boxes or sealed plastic bags.
  • Small items should be packed into boxes.
  • Dresser drawers must be emptied (but you don’t need to remove the drawers from the frame). Do not place the small items you are donating in the drawers!
  • Please label all boxes and bags with what they contain; this will really help the volunteers who sort our items!

We pick up all over the island of Montreal, as well as the South Shore and Laval.

We are active from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We do not pick up on weekends.

Please understand that we may not be able to pick up your items as soon as you might like. Our constraints include the size of our vehicle, availability of volunteers, your location, and the priority we give to delivering items to refugee claimant families.

Yes! Once you complete your donation, you will receive a charitable tax receipt for the value of the donated items by email. Only furniture and appliances are eligible for a tax receipt. Your tax receipt will contain the items that you listed in our donation form - so please be sure to fill it out!

The funds collected from the fees we charge for furniture removal go right back into our organization to help support our mission of supporting refugee claimants.

These fees allow us to keep our trucks on the road, maintain our warehouse space, and keep our dedicated logistics team working to both respond to donation offers and deliver items to refugee claimant families’ homes.
